Let's Talk About Email (...plus, my Q&A with ZeroBounce)
So your email open rate is nothing to write yo mama about.
You then start to wonder what’s amiss.
Is it my send schedule?
Is it my from name? Or my subject line?
Gasp! Is it because I can’t be bothered to add a preheader?
Before you go into full CSI mode in your A/B testing lab, ask yourself this:
Did my email actually make it into my subscriber's inbox?
Yessiree! Email deliverability may have something to do with your low open rate, and it could be about more than just a spammy subject line. There are factors like subscriber acquisition sources, permission practices, expectations... Wait, your mom isn't the only person on your list expecting your email, is she?
There are also the different types of email bounces that are classified by a 3-digit codezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... *yawn* Yeah, me too. Numbers give me all the yawns.
JUST REMEMBER: If you don't get into the inbox, you won't get the open.
One way to help avoid inbox placement issues is to ask your subscribers to whitelist your email address. White walker whaaat? Basically you're asking them to add you to their contact list pretty please with maraschino cherries on top. You can also link them to a whitelisting guide like the one created by Campaign Monitor.
Another way is to rely on an email verification and validation service like ZeroBounce. Try their email validation checker to see how it works. #notsponsored While you're at it, read the Q&A I did with them recently. I talked about the best and worst emails including the email I wish I never sent. Yikes!
